Qualifications & Certifications

Our welding procedures and quality management systems comply with recognized industry and military standards. This framework provides documented assurance that all fabricated components meet stringent compliance and performance requirements.

We hold the following certifications and qualifications:

  • GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, Brazing: We perform Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) for high-precision control, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) for production efficiency, Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) for heavy fabrication, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for structural versatility, and Brazing for joining metals at lower temperatures.
  • AWS CWI/CWE Inspection: Our on-staff American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Educator (CWE) oversee all quality control and provide on-site welding training services.
  • NADCAP Accredited: This National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program approval signifies our adherence to the highest quality standards for aerospace and military manufacturing.
  • ISO 9001-2015: This certification validates that our quality management system meets the international standard for consistency, documentation, and continual improvement.
  • AWS D1.1, AWS 1.6, & AWS 15.1: We perform welding in accordance with these American Welding Society codes, which govern structural steel, stainless steel, and railroad vehicle fabrication.
  • ASME Section 9: Our welders and welding procedures are qualified according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX.
  • Military Armament STD-1185: We are certified for the welding of ground combat vehicle armor.
  • Military Armament SDX12140D: This certification covers the specific welding requirements for fabricating military armament hardware.

Industries We Work With

As a Technical Welding Company in Pennsylvania, Advanced Welding Technologies offers expert welding and fabrication services. This allows us to build precise parts and assemblies for many different industries, including:

  • Mainline Rail: High-strength structural components and undercarriage assemblies built to withstand the constant stress of freight and passenger rail operations
  • Transit: Passenger vehicle frames and safety-critical parts for public transportation systems that demand strict quality control
  • Off-Road Vehicles: Durable chassis, booms, and attachment points for heavy equipment designed to endure extreme impact and torsion in the field
  • Mining Equipment: Wear-resistant assemblies and heavy-plate fabrications for mining machinery operating in the most abrasive environments
  • Military and Defense: We perform certified mil-spec welding to produce mission-critical components for ground combat vehicles and armament systems.

Advanced Welding Methods for Multiple Alloys

We select the appropriate welding process to match the material’s properties and the project’s specific requirements. This ensures every weld achieves full structural integrity and meets all application demands.

Our experienced welders use the following core welding techniques:

MIG: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), or MIG, is a process that uses a continuously fed wire electrode and a shielding gas. The wire functions as both the electrode and the filler material, which permits faster welding speeds and high material deposition rates. This method is highly efficient for joining thick plates and is frequently used in production manufacturing for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

TIG: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), or TIG, generates an arc through a non-consumable tungsten electrode. An operator manually introduces a separate filler rod into the weld puddle, allowing for precise heat input and bead placement. This high level of control makes the process suitable for thin-gauge materials and metals like aluminum or stainless steel, where weld appearance is a factor.

ARC: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), or ARC, is a manual process that uses a consumable electrode coated in flux. The electric arc melts the electrode and the flux coating decomposes to provide a shielding gas and a protective slag over the weld pool. Its portability makes it effective for equipment repair, structural steel erection, and welding in outdoor or windy conditions.

We work with a wide range of non-ferrous metals, including but not limited to:

Copper: Valued for its superior electrical and thermal conductivity, copper is essential in many high-performance applications. Welding this metal is technically demanding due to its rapid heat dissipation, which requires specialized equipment and precise control.

Stainless Steel: Specified for its exceptional corrosion resistance, strength, and hygienic properties. Proper welding technique is critical to prevent heat distortion and preserve the chromium oxide layer that protects the material from rust.

Mild Carbon Steel: Offers great versatility and cost-effectiveness for industrial applications. Our welders adhere to certified procedures to achieve full penetration and structural integrity in all steel welds.

Aluminum: Provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making them critical for the transit, military, and aerospace industries. Welding aluminum requires overcoming its tough oxide layer and high thermal conductivity, necessitating specialized AC TIG or pulsed MIG processes.
